Summer Outdoor Leadership Programs

summer program

The Ryther Outdoor Leadership Program provides three summer day camps, where children, teenagers and young adults gain social skills, friendships and self-esteem in a fun and enriching environment. Although not diagnosis-driven, our camps are structured for students with Asperger Syndrome, ADHD and other unique learning and social-interactive styles. Prospective families meet with staff prior to enrollment to ensure that camp fits their child’s needs.

Students practice new social skills on our certified Challenge Course. Trail building and restoration projects in Seattle and Issaquah provide opportunities to complete a team-oriented task and feel the satisfaction of improving one’s community. Students earn a weekly internship stipend based on overall attendance and are also eligible for community service hours (specific to the trail project) and a letter of recommendation.

Hiking trips, clay studio sessions, glass-blowing, indoor rock climbing, games and field trips to local attractions all lead to an a memorable summer experience that increases self-esteem. In addition, we have Alumni and parent support groups that create community and provide for an ongoing resource to students and parents.

Our staff includes experienced and dedicated Master’s level professionals in the psychology, education, counseling and social work fields. To insure individualized support, we provide a student to staff ratio of 4:1. Healthy snacks are provided, courtesy of our partner, Whole Foods.
